Letter from Parliament - Simon Danczuk MP

Date published: 02 July 2015

If there’s one inescapable truth about politics it’s that nothing much gets done without leadership. This is often evident in Westminster, when endless delays and indecision rules. Because I know how important leadership is, I’m always keen to learn from those who demonstrate it and in Rochdale there are plenty of good examples.

One of these can be found at Kentmere Academy and nursery where the headteacher, Sarah Isberg, has turned around a failing school. I recently paid the school a visit and saw how her attention to detail, focus on discipline and no-nonsense approach was working wonders. Unsung heroes like Sarah really make a difference in our communities and deserve to be recognised.

I’m pleased to hear plenty of people talking about the forthcoming Rochdale half marathon and Feel Good Festival and I want to see more major events taking place in our town. After we saw record numbers of tourists descend on Rochdale last year for the Tour de France, Rugby League World Cup and the Literature and Ideas Festival, we’ve proved we can host great events.

Plenty of people who visited our town for the first time last year told me they had a great time and I want many more to share this experience.
