Council won’t release traffic study information, say residents

Date published: 07 July 2015

A group of residents living in Milkstone and Deeplish are frustrated with Rochdale Council following their failure to tell them the results of a traffic study.

The residents approached the council to undertake a traffic study in spring last year following a series of problems in the area. The study was undertaken but since then, the residents say they have had to “chase” the council for information.

One resident said: “Going from Tweedale Street to Milkstone Road is horrendous. It is awful.

“A traffic study was undertaken but ever since then, we have been chasing the council to find out the outcome.”

It is understood that residents made their frustrations known to the council at the last Milkstone and Deeplish Area Forum meeting.

“Despite the Highways Master Plan being on the agenda for the meeting, no one was available to present this portion to us. Despite the council having three months notice of the meeting, they had a replacement (junior) officer attend the meeting, who was not qualified to provide a response,” said the resident.

Residents want to know the results of the study and want to know what Rochdale Council is willing to do to help.

The resident added: “Rochdale Council seem to have a can’t do attitude about them but we want to know what they are going to do for the residents who are living with these problems.

“All we want to know is what is in the traffic study, what the action plan is and what they are going to do for the residents.”

Rochdale Council did not respond to our request for comment.
