Smallbridge & Belfield Youth Club learn about diverse cultures

Date published: 22 July 2015

Smallbridge & Belfield Youth Club last week organised a community cohesion day enabling young people who access Rochdale Youth Services provision at Smallbridge Library to learn about the diverse cultures and faiths that make-up society within the modern day Britain.

Young people have been learning about Ramadan and participated in a breaking of a full day fast with their Muslim friends.

Councillor Aftab Hussain, who attended the event, commented: “It’s so good to come out and experience the atmosphere at this event, activities such as this bring out the community and give opportunities to the local residents to see the fruits of the projects that our young people in Smallbridge and Belfield have been doing through the support and engagement of our Rochdale Youth Service.”

Youth worker Mohammed Zarafat said: “The young people are really active in this youth club, it’s good to see such a good turn out by the community as it’s also a way of showing appreciation for the work and commitment that the young people have put towards organising such an event.”

Sam Mason also commented: “We need to thank the Police for their support in helping us to fund such an event, we really have a very diverse community here in Smallbridge and Belfield and it’s so good to see the local residents from different cultural backgrounds coming together and participating in cultural celebrations.”
