Rochdale Judo Club nominated for Heart Safe Award

Date published: 27 July 2015

Rochdale Judo Club has been nominated for a Heart Safe Award following their work with community defibrillators.

The club recently installed a public access defibrillator outside its premises and is hoping to offer free training classes to the public soon.

Rod Cape, from Rochdale Judo Club, said: “This is amazing recognition of the work we've done to raise awareness and train the community in CPR and using Community Defibrillators.”

The club has been nominated in the Sports and Fitness Establishment of the Year category and will go up against Everton in the Community, Everybody and Sutton Junior Football Club.

The UK Heart Safe awards, is the UK’s first nationwide awards competition to celebrate organisations and employers who invest in creating Heart Safe environments, as well as the acts of individuals who have saved lives while at work or leisure.

A Heart Safe environment is described as one where lifesaving equipment – a defibrillator and training - are provided for staff or customers so that, should a sudden cardiac arrest occur, people are fully prepared to perform resuscitation and life support immediately.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Manchester on 9 October.
