Rotary aims for charity boat for Hollingworth Lake
Date published: 30 July 2015
The Rotary Club of Rochdale East has a number of charity projects in the pipeline for the coming year, with the main project being the provision of Hansa Boat for Hollingworth Lake for use by sailors with limited mobility or a disability.
Through a number of fundraising events throughout the next 12 months it is hoped to raise sufficient funds to cover the cost of the boat which will cost in the region of £8,500.
The boat, a Hansa 303, is a versatile model with a wide seat giving sufficient room for two adults, whilst the two sails give a positive role for both helm and crew.
It is an ideal boat for a person’s first sail as they can be accompanied by an experienced sailor. It can also be fitted with an assisted mainsheet and helm, which is very useful for training and building the confidence of sailors with limited mobility or disability as they can be accompanied on their first steps. This can be very reassuring as they learn both how to sail and how to use the controls.
