Todmorden and Bacup Royal Mail delivery offices could close and move to Rochdale

Date published: 31 July 2015

The Royal Mail delivery offices in Bacup and Todmorden could soon close with operations moving to the Rochdale office.

It is understood that Royal Mail is currently undertaking a feasibility study into moving out of their units in Bacup and Todmorden.

Royal Mail Manager Darren Schofield said: "We can confirm that we are undertaking a feasibility study into the possibility of moving our smaller delivery office units at Bacup and Todmorden into our delivery office in Rochdale.

“As a commercial business, we are operating in a market where letters are in structural decline and where there is significant competition in mails and parcels. Royal Mail is always looking at ways to reduce its costs and improve efficiency, with minimal impact on its customers.

"Whenever a delivery office move goes ahead, we would always offer our customers alternative means of receiving undelivered items of mail, including delivery to a neighbour, to a designated neighbour, re-delivery to the addressee, to another local address specified by the customer or to arrange collection from a nearby Post Office branch.

"We also operate an open and honest policy with our staff and any modernisation or efficiency proposals being considered would always involve full discussions with all staff affected by any proposed change.

“There will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of this suggested merger."

It is not yet known when the feasibility study ends and when a final decision will be made.
