Simon Danczuk meets Kofi Annan on governance visit

Date published: 02 August 2015

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk recently met up with the former General Secretary of the United Nations as part of a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association visit to strengthen governance in Ghana.

As part of a two day visit, Mr Danczuk spent some time discussing the challenges facing Africa with Kofi Annan.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Danczuk said he had been especially impressed with Mr Annan's commitment to taking a new approach on the war on drugs, particularly in focusing on the damage that drugs money has on undermining the democratic process.

"We're all united on the need for strong stable governance because the consequences of violent conflict and instability are a migrant crisis that's now showing on our TV screens from Calais on a regular basis," he said. "Some illegal migrants will end up in Rochdale and it's the responsibility of all politicians to try and promote economic progress and global stability."
