Time for creation at Rochdale Parish Church

Date published: 26 September 2015

Rochdale Parish Church held an event which discussed the local environment and how local residents can get involved with local environmental projects.

The event included short, inspiring inputs from St Edward's CE Primary School, which is classed as an Eco School, the Rochdale Environmental Action Group, Petrus and a number of other local organisations.

Rev Mark Coleman said: “This is the first time we have done an event like this and it has gone really well. We wanted to encourage people to get involved with local environmental issues because we shouldn’t panic about climate change but it does affect everyone, so it is good to let people know about different projects.”

As well as short presentations from local speakers, the event included activities such as ‘unfair board games’ and networking opportunities.

Dawn Frost, from St Edwards CE Primary School, said: “We got invited to come along and thought it would be good to talk about our school. We try and get involved with environmental events where we can and it has been nice to hear about other peoples projects.”

Shanaz Mukhtar, from Near Neighbours, said: “The idea of Near Neighbours is to bring people together from a variety of backgrounds to help build relationships and community cohesion. There is a lot of segregation in Rochdale, so the project is about trying to bring everyone together.”
