Simon Danczuk at Labour conference

Date published: 01 October 2015

MP Simon Danczuk championed the issues that matter in Rochdale as he addressed a packed audience at the Labour Party Conference in Brighton.

Speaking alongside other MPs at a fringe event, Mr Danczuk argued the party should be proud of its record in Government but warned against ignoring the issues that matter to hard working families.

He said: "I'm pleased that the theme of this year's conference is 'straight talking, honest politics'. Believe me, in Rochdale you wouldn't get away with anything else.

"I think we should celebrate the fact that many people did well under Labour. You don't win elections by having a mantra of misery, talking about poverty and food banks, you need to be positive.

"We also need to talk about welfare reform, we've got to talk about immigration and we've got to be patriotic. The Labour Party needs to realise that the whole of the UK is not like North London."
