Councillor John Blundell in 'disgusting' tweet controversy

Date published: 01 October 2015

A tweet posted by Councillor John Blundell has caused outrage amongst local residents, who believe that what he said may detract investment from Rochdale.

Councillor Blundell, who is the Assistant to the Cabinet Member for Regeneration tweeted: “Pizza Express is a middle class person’s wet dream.”

Many have described the tweet as “disgusting” with one user saying: “With tweets like Blundell’s on Twitter, no wonder businesses want common sense on regeneration, not jokers.”

Another said: “Attracting retail investment the Rochdale way. Oh and the guy is Deputy Portfolio Holder for regeneration!”

Another added: “He shouldn’t be tweeting that while holding the regeneration portfolio.”

Another user commented: “Where do Labour find these councillors?”

Councillor Blundell has stated online that the tweet was a “joke” but did not respond to our request for comment.
