Date published: 01 October 2015

Police are appealing for witnesses after a firearms discharge in Rochdale. At around 11.05pm on Wednesday 30 September 2015, police were called to Cecil Street, Deeplish following reports of shots fired at people in a car.

Officers attended and discovered damage to the windscreen of the car, believed to be consistent with a firearms discharge. Police are now investigating.

Detective Inspector Lee Hopwood said: “Following enquiries, we now believe the driver and passengers of the car were approached and shot at on Cecil Street.

“I would ask anyone who may have been in the Cecil Street area between 10.30pm and 11.30pm to contact police as soon as possible. We believe this is an isolated incident, and specially trained officers are supporting the victim.”

“Thankfully, no one was injured and we have stepped up patrols in the area for reassurance to the local community.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers on 0161 856 8549 or on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
