Springhill Hospice ward doctor and fitness fanatic, Charlotte Barber, spent the weekend up to her eyes in mud and pushing herself to the limit, with the purpose of raising money for Springhill Hospice. Norden resident and mother of two Charlotte, who has worked at Springhill Hospice for two years, took part in the test of human endurance that is Tough Mudder and raised £936.

Charlotte said: “I suppose Springhill is an obvious choice as I work there but it would have received my support anyway. The care our patients and their families receive is second to none. Springhill Hospice is such a special place, offering the most amazing care and support to the whole community.”

David Williamson and Margaret Jackson, from Milnrow Ladybarn Bowling Club, took on Nikki and Phil Mellor, of Thistleyfield Bowling Club, to decide the winner of the annual Mixed Pairs Bowling Competition at Castlefield Bowling Club on Sunday 20 September. Thistleyfield’s Nikki and Phil were victorious. Springhill Hospice were the big winners overall as on the day the event raised £550 which, once added to the total raised by all the clubs from their own qualifying competitions, the grand total reached was £1,700. Community Support Fundraiser Kate Bennetta said: “This event was the first I’ve attended since starting as a Community Support Fundraiser at Springhill and what a lovely event to get involved with.” If your club wants to get involved next year, contact Kate o register your interest:
