Family fun day in aid of Burma

Date published: 04 October 2015

A family fun day was held at Kingsway Park Sports Centre to help raise money to help Burma.

Organised by Muslim Community Events, an organisation that has started a nationwide campaign to raise £75,000 to build shelter homes in Burma, the event included a number of stalls such as clothing, scents and food and activities for children including bouncy castles, Donkey rides and laser quest.

Tariq Razzaq, Founder and CEO of Muslim Community Events, said: “We have made a nationwide pledge to raise £75,000 for Burma because, sadly, these people are forgotten about. The U N themselves have said that the people of Rohingya are the most persecuted people in the world.”

So far the group has raised over £50,000 for their cause.

Mr Razzaq added: “Our first event was in Oldham and we raised £20,000 and then we had a huge event in Bolton that raised £30,000 and following our event in Rochdale, we have another two events to follow.”

Mr Razzaq hopes to raise around £5,000 from the fun day in Rochdale.

“Even though our events are about raising money, they are also about brining the community together. Our events are for everyone and the people of Rochdale have organised this event and we have just helped them along the way,” said Mr Razzaq.
