John Donovan has been left distraught after he had to make the heart breaking decision to put his dog down following a burglary at his home.

Mr Donovan, who lives on Uncouth Road, Rochdale, says his dog was left traumatised by the incident and wouldn’t stop fitting.

He said: “I had to have my dog put down. She wouldn’t stop fitting. I took her to the vets and she wouldn’t stop.”

Mr Donovan was brought to tears reliving the tale of having to put his beloved dog, who was 13-years-old, down.

When asked how he was coping after the incident, he added: “I’ve had to put my dog down. It’s horrible.”

Mr Donavan recalls hearing an “almighty bang” at around 2:20am on Saturday 3 October. When he came to see what was going on, he saw that his window had been broken by a concrete slab.

He added: “They have smashed my window with a concrete slab and then took my car keys from the front door. They took my car and then crashed it into another parked car and then hit a tree over the road. They couldn’t even drive the thing.”

The car has since been recovered but has been severely damaged.

“The front is just wrecked,” said Mr Donovan. “The bumper is scraping against the tyre and the front edge is gone. The bonnet is bent and the wing mirror is gone.”

This is not the first time that Mr Donovan has been a victim of crime. His mobility scooter was previously stolen from outside of his property.
He said: “Someone took my scooter but I found it a short while later on Queensway.”

Mr Donovan now wants those responsible apprehended for what they did.

“I have an idea who it was. There was four of them. Someone witnessed them and overheard one of their names so I have an idea,” said Mr Donovan.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that no arrests have yet been made.
