The majority of the roadworks at Townhead Junction have been completed and roads have re-opened.

Rochdale Online observed the junction at 1pm this afternoon (Friday 9 October) and all routes to and from the junction had been re-opened. At the time John Street was in the process of being re-opened.

St Mary’s Gate is currently operating with a single lane, as is Yorkshire Street/Halifax Road, whilst work to the central reservation is completed. That is expected to continue until December.

All routes are currently operated by a traffic light system.

The scale of the anger directed at Rochdale Borough Council for the traffic chaos caused by the roadworks appears to have spurred the Council into action; it is understood that work has been taking place over night during the last few days as a way of opening up the roads quicker.
