World Mental Health Day in Rochdale

Date published: 11 October 2015

World Mental Health Day was celebrated in Rochdale Town Centre on Saturday (10 October).

Held on the site of the market, the event, aimed to mark World Mental Health Day with a series of talks, entertainment, information and arts and crafts for children, included information stalls from organisations including Healthy Minds, Rochdale Circle, The Alzheimer’s Society and Rochdale and District Mind.

Vicky Robinson, from The Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We have been involved with this event for about three to four years and today has been really good. We have spoken to a whole variety of people from young and old.

“We wanted to be able to speak to people and dispel the myth that dementia is scary and offer information to people who are concerned about someone or a relative and offer our help.”

Rachel Ginnelly, from the Rochdale Boroughwide User Forum, said: “It has been good and has been really good for networking. We have launched our Lego wellbeing which uses Lego to help people with their health and well being.”

World Mental Health Day falls on 10 October every year and is a way of shining the spotlight on mental health and ill health.
