Liz McInnes MP signs petition at Middleton Walk in Centre
Liz McInnes, Labour Member of Parliament for Heywood and Middleton, has visited staff and patients at Middleton Walk-in Centre to offer her support for the ‘Save Our Walk-in Centre’ campaign, and has signed the petition to save the centre.
The walk-in centre, which serves over 22,000 patients each year, is threatened with closure under a review of services by the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Since the petition was launched on 30 September more than 2,000 people have signed to show their support.
Ms McInnes said: "Middleton Walk-in Centre is a much used and much loved NHS facility in the heart of the Middleton community.
"There has been overwhelming support for the ‘Save our Walk-in Centre’ campaign since it was launched just a couple of weeks ago.
"I spent the morning at the centre talking with staff and patients and it is clear to me that people are very worried about losing the excellent services it provides."
"I appreciate that the CCG have outlined an alternative structure for health services across Middleton should they decide to close the centre, but I would urge them to listen to patients, consult fully with the public and local health workers, and to keep in mind their concerns when making their final decision."
