90-year-old man targeted during burglary

Date published: 13 October 2015

Distraction burglars targeted a 90-year-old man in Rochdale.

Between 12.30pm and 1.20pm on Thursday 8 October 2015, the man was walking to his home on Whiteley Drive, Middleton and as he got to the front door, he was approached by a man.

The man asked to see water pipes inside his house and as he was distracted, another man walked in and stole money. Both left in a silver coloured car.

One man is described as being white, in his early 30s, 5ft 10in tall, with a round face and clean shaven.

The second was white with a darker complexion, in his mid 20s, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build, thin face, had dark eyebrows, clean shaven and wore a baseball cap.

Detective Constable Dan Daly said: “These offenders targeted their victim purely because of his age and vulnerability. I find it hard to believe people can prey on people in such a way which in turn makes us determined to find those responsible.

“Thankfully the victim was able to give us a detailed description of those responsible and we have managed to create an efit. I would ask anyone who may recognise them or may have been targeted in a similar way, to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8701 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
