Careers in Law evening at Rochdale Sixth Form College

Date published: 25 November 2015

Rochdale Sixth Form College recently hosted two ‘Careers in Law’ evenings, to inspire students and provide an understanding of Law as a career path.

Over 60 law students were given the opportunity to ask questions to a panel of volunteers from a legal background.

The panel included solicitors, barristers, judges and an apprentice who had previously attended the college; each came from a range of fields including family law and commercial law and provided an excellent insight into their own careers and the legal profession in general.

A Level student, Breeze Sweetman, said: “They provided a great opportunity to see the variety of ways in which a law degree can be applied and has really cemented my desire to read law at university. The advice received from the solicitors’ from different fields was particularly very useful and gave me a realistic view on their working life.”

Jenna Taylor, Subject Leader for Law, commented: “I am very thankful to all the professionals who volunteered to come to Rochdale Sixth Form College to talk to our students about career choices. They gave an inspiring yet realistic account of the legal profession and spoke of many alternatives to becoming just a barrister or solicitor. It was a very enjoyable event and allowed students to make an informed decision on their chosen career path and how to get there – whether a university or legal apprenticeship is the best approach for them personally.”
