CPR events launched at Milnrow Village Practice

Date published: 25 November 2015

CPR events have been launched at Milnrow Village Practice as a way of encouraging local people to learn lifesaving skills.

Launched on Tuesday, the first session was attended by 45 people including the Deputy Mayor Ray Dutton, Deputy Mayoress Elaine Dutton, local councillors, patients of all ages, local group leaders, representatives of health related organisations and local pharmacy staff.

Practice Manager Alison Wallace said: “The event was a fantastic success and further sessions for 2016 have been arranged for patients registered at the practice on a quarterly basis.”

The sessions were arranged following the establishment of the Patient Participation Group (PPG) in June 2014. The group wanted the practice to hold more sessions that told them what is available to them.

Following discussions with the group, the practice went on to hold a bowel screening event in February 2015, in which 100 patients attended in order to learn more about the screening and treatment of bowel cancer. Rochdale MIND also attended and delivered a presentation on their service along with The Stroke Association.

Then in October 2015, with help from the North West Ambulance Service, the practice delivered a trial CPR/AED session. This was very well attended and due to its success, the launch date was set for more sessions.

Five more sessions have now been booked for those registered at the practice. They will take place on:

  • 2 February 2016
  • 7 June 2016
  • 6 September 2016
  • 6 December 2016
  • 7 March 2017

Each session can accommodate 15 patients every hour. Sessions are planned to be held between 6pm and 9pm.

If you are registered at Milnrow Village Practice and are interested in receiving the training then please call the practice for more information.
