Man threatened with a knife during a robbery in Heywood

Date published: 25 November 2015

A staff member was threatened by a man with a knife during a robbery in Heywood.

At 6.45am on Tuesday 24 November 2015, the victim had finished serving a customer when a man walked into Tesco Express on Bury Street and ran towards him.

He jumped over the counter and threatened him with a knife, demanding money from the till.

The offender ran out of the shop and got into a black/blue Ford Focus before driving off towards Rose Hill Street.

He is described as being white, 6ft 2in tall, of slim build and wore a balaclava. He wore a dark long sleeve top, dark tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Detective Constable Andy Robinson said: “The robbery happened the same time people would have been commuting to work and I would appeal to witnesses to come forward. We are keen to trace the car and would ask anyone who may have seen a Ford Focus driving off at speed to call us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8701, quoting crime reference number 209440N/15, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
