Rochdale's world champion fighter shows his world title belt at FCPC

Date published: 28 November 2015

Martin Stapleton was crowned BAMMA Lightweight World Cage Fighting Champion two weeks ago and today (Saturday 28 November) he took his world title belt to the Full Contact Performance Centre Gym on Queensway and invited people to have their photos taken with him.

Stapleton defeated Gavin Sterritt in a BAMMA (The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts) world title fight in Birmingham on Saturday 14 November - BAMMA is the biggest Mixed Martial Art promotion in Europe.

A former Royal Marines Commando, Stapleton lives locally and is joint owner, with David Hodgkinson and Derek Cullen, of the Full Contact Performance Centre.

After serving 12 years in the Royal Marines, including tours of Northern Ireland and Afghanistan, Stapleton, a Physical Training Instructor, left the forces to focus as a professional MMA fighter.

The Full Contact Performance Centre is a ground-breaking facility based on Queensway offering world class coaching in various forms of martial arts and an innovative programme of strength, conditioning and fitness classes to suit all levels of fitness.
