Junior doctors’ strike Tuesday 1 December - patient information

Date published: 30 November 2015

A spokesman for The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust which runs North Manchester and Fairfield General Hospitals, The Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary said: “Junior doctors in England have voted in favour of going on strike following the ballot by the British Medical Association (BMA). The BMA has announced three days of industrial action.

“The first strike will start on Tuesday 1December where junior doctors will provide only emergency care for 24 hours from 8am.

“Patient safety and the welfare of our patients is the Trust’s top priority.

“Our A&E departments and urgent care services will operate as usual but the public are encouraged to think twice before coming to A&E unless their condition is urgent. People are also reminded of the other healthcare options available instead of coming to A&E or dialling 999 – such as visiting their pharmacist or GP, calling NHS 111 or using NHS Choices (www.nhs.uk).

“There is likely to be some impact on our non-emergency and planned services during this period. We will be contacting patients directly if their care has to be postponed and rescheduled as a result. Those in less urgent need of care may experience longer waiting times than normal.”
