Residents come together to help refugees

Date published: 30 November 2015

Over 50 community members, young and old, came out yesterday (Sunday 29 November) to help create and deliver food packages to refugees placed in Rochdale.

Food packages for a month containing oil, chicken, lentils and other basic food items were prepared and hand delivered by volunteers in and around the Rochdale area.

A youth club run by Wardleworth Community Centre and Youth Connections even got their hands dirty for the cause.

Young people helped pack crates full of a variety of foods for families and individual refugees.

Over 100 crates containing the basic food were made and distributed.

The refugees coming from different parts of the world such as Ethiopia, Lebanon, Syria and other war torn countries were ecstatic with one individual continuously saying ‘thank you’.

The food packages will be made and delivered on the last Sunday of every month so the refugees will have enough food to last them the month.
