Karen Danczuk slates local councillors saying they 'shouldn’t be in charge of the milk trolley'

Date published: 09 December 2015

Karen Danczuk, former councillor and the estranged wife of Rochdale MP, Simon Danczuk, has published an extremely candid personal view slating local councillors, and in particular local Labour group councillors, on her blog.

Mrs Danczuk savages councillors saying "the majority of councillors in the borough where [sic] I represented shouldn’t be in charge of the milk trolley."

Mrs Danczuk was a local councillor for four years, representing Kingsway ward between 2011 and May 2015 when she stood down.

She claims that during her time as a councillor she had "confidence, a warm heart and brains" and those very qualities were "everything that wasn’t required".

She goes on to call local councillors "scruffy" with "messy hairstyles" and "dirty shoes" and contrasts this with her own "stylish" appearance resplendent with "designer handbag".

Slating a lack of democracy and shambolic meetings, she describes a "very nasty, vindictive environment".

She goes on to single out councillors "in certain communities", claiming: "To be a councillor in certain communities means crazy power, royal treatment, fed egos and any favour that your heart desires. They have no loyalty to the party they represent, if they knew a party called 'jokers gang' - whose policy was to make everyone dress a clown - would definitely win they would switch at a drop of the hat!"

Having mauled local councillors Mrs Danczuk then vents her spleen about MPs and their staff - this despite that she was, until recently, employed by her husband Simon Danczuk on a £30,000 a year salary (plus highly controversial overtime payments).

In a kick in the shins for her estranged MP husband she says: "You haven’t met an ego until you have met an MP."

Mrs Danczuk concludes by saying there are "many more horrifying stories that the general public should know about" and hints she may reveal more in future ending with: "There aren’t enough hours in the day to tell you more, but maybe one day I will."

Responding to the attack, Middleton North councillor, Chris Furlong said: "A Danczuk using media to spout nonsense about their own party and its members to gain publicity. It's getting so repetitive and boring now I assume most people treat the constant drivel with the contempt it deserves."

Councillor Ian Duckworth said: "I must respond to Karen Danczuk’s attacks on Rochdale councillors...

"My only memory of her was her sitting through a Rochdale Township meeting tapping away at her phone and chewing away in a bovine manner, completely ignoring her surroundings and, in one case, a member of the public with an issue in her own ward.

"I never heard her speak on any issue, so I cannot give any assessment of how articulate she would have been.

"I suppose she’s running out of sensational things to grab the headlines, and the shrinking interest in her by the national press means she has to revert to local items.

"I feel sorry for her really, she’s heading for a fall, but being one of these people who are not intelligent enough to know how stupid they are, she’s completely oblivious to it."
