Date published: 10 February 2010

Middleton Rotary Club's annual ‘presentation’ evening saw 47 Rotarians and guests present to witness the giving of donations to charitable local groups, in total almost £4000 was handed out. The money had been raised by the Rotarians efforts over the Christmas period from collections at the Middleton shopping centre and their annual Christmas float.
Recipients of the awards were:

  • The Mustard Tree charity
  • Springhill Hospice
  • Middleton Community Training Hut
  • Rochdale Victim Support
  • Burnside Centre
  • Middleton Scouts
  • Middleton Guides
  • Inner Wheel
  • Middleton Round Table
  • Francis House Children’s Hospice

All organisations were represented and each gave a brief update on the work they do and how they plan to use the donations.

Middleton Rotary President Peter Hayward said: "These nights are always ones to look forward to for the club. All the effort and hard work members put in over the Christmas period is rewarded by hearing just how much good work is done by all the local groups represented tonight, and the fact that we are able to support them all in this way. Of course a big thank you goes out to the people of Middleton who support us over Christmas with their very generous donations."

Marie Douglas was presented with a Rotary Community Award, in recognition of the "excellent work" she has carried out over many years with the Middleton Bereavement Service, President Peter Hayward commented: "I am delighted to be able to award this to Marie, it is always wonderful to recognise people that give so willingly for the good of others."
