Apply now for winter fuel boost
Date published: 22/03/2008
More than £16 million of winter fuel payments could remain unclaimed by Rochdale’s over-60s unless they apply before 30 March.
Age Concern is urging all Rochdalians over the age of 60 who have not already received this year’s Government winter fuel payment to put in a claim.
The charity says it particularly applies to men who hit 60 on or before September 23, 2007.
There is less than two weeks to make a claim, and forms can be downloaded from:
Or applied for by calling the winter fuel payment helpline on 08459-151 515 during office hours.
This year, for those aged 60 to 79, the household receives £200 a year, and over-80s get an extra £50 or £100, depending on circumstances.
People in Rochdale struggle during the winter months, and this year thousands are likely to feel an even greater chill as the days shorten and temperatures fall.
It is really important that everyone eligible registers for the Government’s winter fuel payment and receives all the financial help that they are entitled to.
All customers of Age Concern energy services will also receive an extra payment of at least £10.
