SSV supports Ding Quarry campaigners

Following discussions with local people and local politicians from all parties, the Save Spodden Valley campaign is supporting Ding Quarry campaigners.

As reported by Rochdale Online for over two years, SSV is campaigning for improvements in community amenity for the entire Spodden Valley as a 'green gateway' from central Rochdale through Spotland Bridge to Healey Dell and onto the Pennines. Their aim is to ensure safe and open access for all.

The Ding Quarry application raises many issues including: community safety from greatly increased wagon traffic, ecology, biodiversity, safe access to open, tranquil greenspace plus protection of the 'Cotton Famine Road' a significant site of cultural and historic heritage. 

The extraction of 28 million tonnes of material and the subsequent lorry movements may destroy such an important monument and its setting.

An immediate call has been made for RMBC Planning Department extend the public consultation period beyond 19 November.

The Environmental Statement and associated documents lodged with the RMBC Planning department are now being closely studied before formal representations are made regarding Planning Conditions for the Ding Quarry.
