Macclesfield 0 - 2 Rochdale

Date published: 31 July 2014

Rochdale ran out winners in their penultimate warm up game before the season starts on Saturday week. Keith Hill named a mixture of youth, experience and trialists for this game at Macclesfield Town’s Moss Rose Stadium.

Hill gave three trialists a run out; former Norwich midfielder David Fox and Adam Morgan who came through Liverpool’s Youth academy played the full 90 whilst little known Nuha Jabbie was given 45 minutes.

The game wasn’t the most enthralling of spectacles but the 488 inside The Moss Rose were treated to two good goals from Dale.

Shining light Callum Camps made one and scored the other within five first half minutes. His cross for Rhys Bennett was perfection with the full back looping a header over home keeper Rhys Taylor but Camps’ goal was simply sublime.

The youngster belied his years when he picked up the ball before heading diagonally across the edge of the area before sending a delicate lob from 16 yards over Taylor who was left helpless, even Keith Hill who was sat in the press box throughout couldn’t believe the quality of the finish from one so young.

Both sides had the odd glimmer of altering the scoreline, Joel Logan should have netted from two yards out after a great cross from Morgan whilst at the other end a mistake by Sean McGinty allowed former Dale striker Matthew Barnes-Homer a sight at goal but he blazed wide.

It was a decent workout for the players selected and although no clues have been given by Hill as to his starting eleven come 9 August 9, only one or two of those on show tonight will be named against Peterborough, which will have been no use to Posh manager Darren Ferguson or his father Sir Alex who were watching from the stands.
