Tip closure looms
Date published: 19 September 2011
The Household Waste Recycling Centre on Peel Lane, Heywood, will close on Wednesday (21 September).
The closure is part of a bid by Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) to save money.
It was decided in June that the tip in Heywood as well as sites in Shaw, Prestwich and Bolton would close.
When the date of the closure was announced, Councillor Neil Swannick, Chairman of the Authority, said: “The Authority did not want to close any sites, but unfortunately financial savings had to be made”.

This is absolutely ridiculous. With fortnightly rubbish collections I can see there being a huge rise in fly-tipping which will most likely cost the council more!
