Appeal to trace motorist following collision

Date published: 30 September 2011

Police want to hear from a motorist who briefly stopped after colliding with a moped before driving off again.

At about 10.35pm on Monday 26 September 2011, a red Vauxhall Corsa collided with a moped on Bridge Street, Heywood.

The driver of the Corsa stopped and got out to check on the moped rider, before getting back in his car and driving off.

The rider suffered a broken collar bone and left elbow and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.

The driver of the Corsa was described as white, in his early 30s with a medium build and his car will have moderate damage to the front nearside.

PC Peter Wray, of the road policing unit, said: "The driver did have the right intention of stopping to check on the injured man.

"However, he then drove off, perhaps not realising it is an offence to leave the scene of an accident.

"If you know this man, or if you are the driver and are reading this, then please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to call the road policing unit on 0161 856 8866.
