Inspire week

Date published: 17 January 2016

The launch of GM Inspire week is on 18 January and it is hoped Greater Manchester residents will volunteer and celebrate current volunteer’s hard work.

To help people in Greater Manchester volunteer, GreaterSport have worked with partners to develop the Volunteer Inspire Programme, an active system, that allows Greater Manchester residents to find volunteering opportunities. The programme currently has over 6,200 volunteers, with the aim of reaching over 300 new volunteers within GM Inspire week.

Throughout the week GreaterSport will be giving numerous spot prize to both newly signed up volunteers and any community sports clubs who provide new opportunities for volunteers.

There is a volunteering opportunity available for almost anyone. With a wide range of activities and roles, it doesn’t matter if you are 16 or 80. Whether you’d like the chance to help others, for the satisfaction of developing a club, team or activity, to be part of a mass participation event or if you’d like to develop your own skills and employability, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in sport across Greater Manchester.

Yvonne Harrison, Chief Executive at GreaterSport said: "Volunteering is a great opportunity for people of all ages. It gives an opportunity to get active, meet new people and have positive, new experiences. GM Inspire week allows GreaterSport to have a big focus on volunteers to not only drive recruitment, yet celebrate the successes and hard work done by Greater Manchester’s current volunteers.”

Geoff Sheelan, volunteer of the year winner at Bolton’s Sports Awards last year, is passionate about volunteering, he said: “Being a volunteer is not just about you giving your time it is about you giving something to your community and in return you get a sense of belonging - a sense of what is achievable. You just need to make the effort. If you do others will too.”
