Habil Khan wins by unanimous decision in short notice fight

Habil Khan won by unanimous decision, despite taking a fight at very short notice against Ross Patterson at the Wilmslow Leisure Centre for the Macclesfield Boys home show.

Far from ideal with Khan being only about 80% ready, Khan's coaches at Queensway Aamateur Boxing Club decided the fight was a risk worth taking.

Coach David Hodkinson said: "As soon as we saw his stocky opponent we made an educated guess as to how the fight was going to pan out.

"We made a plan to box at range and not let Patterson close the distance."

The first round saw Khan popping the jab out every time Patterson wanted to commit therefore putting him off his rhythm and allowing Khan to land the back hand over the top.

Khan switched to southpaw for the second and third rounds as Patterson had a really open guard and was wide open to the southpaw back hand down the middle.

With the first two rounds in the bag, Khan boxed and moved in the third landing shots at will with hardly any response to take the fight by unanimous decision.

After the fight, Hodkinson said: "This place is quite good for us, we came here last year with two lads and got two wins and to do it again this year was the icing on the cake."
