First match of the JW Lees Brewery Pennine Cricket League

Date published: 21 April 2016

The first ever match under the auspices of the JW Lees Brewery Pennine Cricket League will be played at Milnrow's Ladyhouse ground at 1.00pm on Saturday 23 April.

Norden, last season's CLL champions, will meet Saddleworth who won the Saddleworth and District League last term.

The 40-overs per side match starts at 1pm, but before then there will be an official opening of the new league by civic dignitaries, and League president John Holder.

There will also be a special opening delivery, sent down by 82-year-old Cec Wright who has spent most of his career in the CLL and Saddleworth leagues. He first played for Crompton in 1959 and is still going strong with Uppermill.

All proceeds will go to the charity Cardiac Research in the Young, in memory of Tom Hardman.
