Milnrow CC off to a winning start at Werneth

Date published: 25 April 2016

Milnrow CC had a very positive start to the season as they put in a highly professional performance and achieved a clinical victory away at Werneth.

After Power won the toss and put Werneth in, Milnrow's young bowling attack bowled tightly and built pressure on the home team.

Charlie Lloyd Jones made the breakthrough in the eighth over by bowling Walker and then Milnrow took wickets at regular intervals. Aaron Brown bowled Dronsfield and then Jack Wynn took the crucial wicket of the Werneth professional, Hussain, with Power taking an outstanding diving catch.

The fifth wicket partnership reached over 40 before Second had Khan caught by Faad Khan at mid on.

From this point on Milnrow exerted full control over the Werneth batting with Second bowling with real skill and taking 5 for 23.

Second's class with the bat is without question, but it was impressive to see him bowl with real intelligence and put the batsmen under constant pressure.

At the other end, Faad Khan took the wicket of Ghaffour.

Milnrow's bowling was tight and fielding was sharp. Werneth were bowled out for 118, with Milnrow only giving away four extras, only one of which was a wide.

Despite a short rain break, Milnrow batted with confidence.

Alex Willis played several classy shots to get to 15 before skying one to mid on.

Crabtree also hit some lovely shots before playing a loose one when looking well-set on 18.

Professional, Rudi Second, ensured that the Milnrow victory was never in doubt by batting with real class and fluency. He regularly found the gaps with crisp timing and hit the winning runs with a six out of the ground to reach 62 not out.
