Price and North stars of the show as Norden beat Royton

Date published: 26 April 2016

Professional Michael Price and skipper Simon North were the stars of the show as Norden picked up four points from their JW Lees Pennine League opener at Royton on Sunday.

Price slammed 110 runs before being stumped by Denny Hulme. His knock included 11 fours and three sixes as Norden plundered a total of 193 for five.

North then took seven for 34 as Royton fell short of their target on 170 for eight.

North opened the innings only to be caught out on 10, then Harvey Fitton looked the victim of a harsh decision when given out stumped by Hulme for two.

Any fears of a Norden collapse were dispelled as Price and Ashley Gowers put on 121 before Gowers, on 47, became one of four stumping victims by Hulme.

Price and Steve Pimm both fell in a late push to boost a strong target for Royton to chase.

James Maurice-Scott and Paul Winrow gave the reply a superb start and Royton had 69 on the board by the time they lost their first wicket.

The introduction of North to the attack changed the course of the game, and Royton found themselves on 97 for five.

The score continued to mount, but it looked all over at 148 for eight before a late flurry of 21 from Joe Lovell helped the total up to 170.
