Terrific season for Littleborough RUFC Seconds

Date published: 19 May 2016

Finishing 12 points off the promotion doesn’t do Littleborough RUFC Seconds justice after a terrific season that has seen them go from relegation survivors to championship contenders in the space of 12 months.

The side recovered from losing three out of the first four games to go on a spectacular run winning five out of six matches in the final months of 2015.

Into the New Year and Kirby inflicted a heavy defeat on Littleborough, that was further compounded  when the other postponed game between the  sides was rearranged for a Wednesday evening in April at Rakewood but Kirby were unable to travel. Rather than the usual 'win' going to the side that could raise a team, a draw was declared.

Boro then won seven in eight  to move into second place but then injuries hit and losses to Fylde, a rejuvenated Eccles side and a disappointing three point loss to De Le Salle ended any hope of a top two finish.

It has been a remarkable year for the Littleborough second team considering the major struggle the side had fighting off a relegation battle last season.
