Hornets V Scorpions: Sunday 22 May, 3pm Kick Off. Spotland Stadium

Rochdale Hornets won 52-24 at Oxford. Coach Alan Kilshaw said: “I think the scoreline flattered us a little bit, they gave us a real game for 60 minutes and then probably our physicality got us home. We’d made a good platform early on and managed to pull away in that last 20 minutes.

“This will be our last home game for a while so we want to put a performance in and reward those fans who have been watching us home and away. That’s our focus this week.

“This will be our fourteenth consecutive game, no other team has done that. Our lads deserve a big rap for that. To get up thirteen weeks in a row, it’s a long stretch. We’re really looking at earning that week off the following this game, then we have three games in a row away.”

Back rowers Stu Biscomb (concussion) and Jordan Case (leg injury) will both be missing but Rochdale are likely to get a couple of players from Warrington Wolves via their dual-registration arrangement.

South Wales Scorpions lost 44-4 at home to Barrow Raiders. Coach Phil Carleton said:   “Barrow were better than us but I don’t think they were that much better. We were far from where I expect us to be. We completed 12 sets in total and the disappointing thing is that we didn’t kick on from York. We missed 10 tackles and they scored eight tries, it was far too easy and we were far too soft.

“We’ve got a real tough test this week at Rochdale. We’re not in awe of them but we know we’ve just got to be better. The frustrating thing is we know we can do it and looking back at that second half against York we know we can compete. We’ve worked hard, so fingers crossed, we can right a few wrongs.”

There is an action packed pre match this week as Rochdale Cobras open age (coached by Hornets James Tilley) taken on Bury Broncos, with kick off at 12.45pm.

Local singers Amy Morgan and Kendra will be performing pre-game from 2.30pm.

Amy and Kendra performed in the heats of the Rochdale Rocks programme earlier this year and both will step up to the mic on Sunday and entertain the crowd between 2.30pm and 2.50pm.

The main game kicks off at 3.00pm, with Turnstiles/Main Bar open from 12.30pm.

It is the third instalment of the program this year and Alan Kilshaw is looking forward to it, following on from the success of the previous two sessions.

He siad: “It’s great to get so many talented kids in one place from across the borough and again, our dual registration partners, Warrington Wolves, will be assisting on one of the days. We are proud of the professional standards of coaching that we can bring to the kids in Rochdale and hopefully this helps them develop in the game”.

Rochdale Hornets Head of Youth, Chris Coop, will lead the sessions with assistance from foundation and volunteer coaches as well as Warrington Wolves Head of Youth, Phil Jones.

The sessions will be on both grass and 3G pitches and will cover a range of skills including skill development, movement literacy and player education.
