Date published: 07 June 2016

Heywood's second team got their Greater Manchester League season up-and-running with their first victory of the new Division Three campaign.

They faced a stiff task on paper with a trip to Greenmount but took control of the match by posting 216-7 from their 50 overs led by 75 from Wes Hunt, 56 by Joe Humphreys and 39 by Rob Bennett.

The Heywood bowlers got in on the act to dismiss the home side for 110.

Rick Purser led the way with 4-31 from his 14 overs, and he was well supported by Dominic Fawcett with 3-36 and Humphreys 2-9.

Heywood’s third team were well beaten the following day at Littleborough Lakeside, who posted a formidable 236 from almost their 40 overs.

Fawad made 49 for the home side despite 3-60 by Dominic Fawcett, 2-39 by Sam Byrne making a welcome return to action, and 3-34 by young Cavhan Bhimvll-Hilton.

That total proved all too much for Heywood who finished on 146.

Michael Witts top-scored with 43 and James Mills contributed 23. Fawad completed a fine all-round performance with 5-9.
