Mayfield Preview

Date published: 23 June 2016

Rochdale Mayfield travel to face Castleford Lock Lane on Saturday in the Kingstone Press Premier Division. Lane are just below the play off positions at the moment but are only one point behind Mayfield so a tight game is in prospect.

Mayfield go into the game full of confidence on the back of seven straight wins including last week’s thriller against Saddleworth.

Lane lost out at Siddal last week so will be looking to get back to winning ways and restart their push for a play off spot come the end of the season.

In Sam Butterworth's absence last week the vastly experienced Chris Hough took over the seven shirt and made a useful contribution linking well with Paul Brearley at six. Butterworth will face a late fitness test to determine whether or not he will play on Saturday.

Calland is also a doubt again after picking up a knee injury a couple of weeks ago.

Two points could see Mayfield leap frog West Hull who entertain high flying Leigh Miners so this is an important game for them, but as Butterworth says every game is important at this level and Mayfield go out with only one thought on their minds and that is to win.

Mayfield NWML welcome mid table Widnes Tigers to the Mayfield Sports Centre for a game they desperately want to win.

Dave Harmer and Craig White have been disappointed with the commitment shown by some of the squad, leaving them struggling for a full side in some games.

They are hopeful that Saturday will see a turn around and the team will realise its potential. With a good proportion of young players, the side has the ability to do well and a win would see them go a long way towards that goal.
