Fairytale continuing for Littleborough Rugby

Date published: 07 July 2016

Littleborough RUFC has been named in the top six clubs in the country this season due to the success and commitment of the club to grow the game in the North West.

The past year has been one of the best ever for Boro.

The senior men's first team got to the quarter final of the Senior Vase and gained promotion from the Lancashire North League.

The seconds came third and would have gone up had they not lost three of the last four games.

The thirds also came third, becoming the highest placed third team in the league.

The junior section has seen an increase of over 30 young girls and boys joining the Littleborough ranks.

The U10s put the big teams to the sword in Huddersfield.

The U14s boys won the first ever Blacksticks Blue Challenge bowl.

Littleborough was recently awarded the Ian Sinclair youth trust award for being the best club in the county for promoting youth rugby.

Director general of the youth set up, Kate Bennetta, was nominated by Sale Sharks for their Premiership Rugby Volunteer of the year. An achievement for Kate and the club.

The pink warriors (Littleborough girls) U13s got to the final of the Melbourne Sevens.

Many of the U15s now play for Lancashire and one plays for the North of England.

Littleborough's ladies have been making strides - over the last 12 months they have hosted their own rugby festival and started a new women's open age team.

The winner of the Pitchero rugby club of the year award will be announced at a glamorous ceremony at the home of rugby, Twickenham, on 1 September.
