Mayfield Preview

Date published: 08 July 2016

Mayfield welcome Egremont Rangers to the Mayfield Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon for an important game for both sides.

Mayfield lost out to Egremont's near neighbours, Wath Brow, on Wednesday night in Cumbria 24 – 10 in what was a poor game.

On Saturday they hope to turn that round and pick up the all-important two points on offer.

Egremont have had a slow first half of the season and are sitting third from bottom in the relegation spots.

A great win last week against St Pat's may have given them the kick start they needed and Mayfield will have to be on top of their game if they are to get anything from this one.

Coaches Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth were bitterly disappointed with the outcome at Wath Brow and have laid it on the line for the plaeyrs for this game, expressing the need to improve their concentration. They know the team has the skills and the fitness to be right up there at the top of the division.

They will take heart that even though they haven’t reproduced the form they showed last season, they are still in fourth place.

This will be the third game in eight days for these players so they will have to draw on their reserves. C

alland and Butterworth may have to draw from the squad but will wait until Saturday morning before assessing the fitness and making the final selection.

The NWML side have a tough game as they take on Halton Farnworth.

Halton are pushing for promotion and will provide a stern test for the Rochdale side but Mayfield had a good win last time out against Widnes Tigers, who themselves were a useful outfit.

Dave Harmer and Craig White will be waiting to see if the NCL side need to take any of their players before naming their side to travel but are urging their players to show the same spirit as last week and go and get the win in Widnes.
