Heywood Cricket Club teams for the weekend

Date published: 25 August 2016

Two of Heywood Cricket Club’s most promising young players step into the first team for their league debuts this coming weekend.

Joe Humphreys, who has turned in a series of impressive performances in the second team, makes it a family triumvirate in the senior side alongside his dad Chris and older brother Dominic.

Michael Witts, who featured in the first team for the Twenty20 Cup quarter-final win at Edgworth earlier in the season, joins him in making his bow at the top league level.

It’s a game, which features a sponsorship by the Patio regulars, that Heywood need to win to realistically keep alive their hopes of staving off relegation from the Greater Manchester Premier League with just four games left.

The second team, meanwhile, go to Edgworth for the reverse fixture on the same day.

Sunday sees an important assignment for the third team when they go to Denton West for the Per-Fit Third XI Cup semi-final.

Victory would see the same side playing the following day, Bank Holiday Monday, in the final against Bury or Elton at Winton Cricket Club.
