Shawclough Football Club looking for players

Date published: 26 August 2016

Shawclough Football Club is looking for new boys and girls to play for their U11 and U13 sides ahead of the start of the new season.

The club runs several teams for players aged 5-13, but is specifically looking for players for their U11s team, who are moving up to nine a side for this season, and the U13s team which is progressing to the full 11 a side game for the new campaign. Both teams are mixed.

Chairman and U13s manager Andy Perrins explained the success the two teams had last term: “Both the U11s and U13s teams won the cup last year, when they were U10s and U12s, which is called the Champions League. The U13s were also runners-up in their League.

“The league starts in September and then after Christmas all the teams are put into groups and the teams progress through knockout rounds, like in the actual Champions League.

"Both teams need more players next season though; the U11s need about five players and the U13s about three.”

Andy added: “We are a very multicultural club. We have people from all sorts of different backgrounds playing for our teams. We are a club fully integrated into the community, and that’s one of the biggest and most important things about us.”

Shawclough FC trains on Saturday mornings on Lenny Barn playing fields next to Falinge Park High School, Falinge Road, Rochdale. All teams play their matches in the Heywood Mini Soccer League, which will start next weekend (4 September), on Sunday mornings at the Heywood Sports Village.

The club doesn’t charge any signing on fees for players, with training sessions priced at £3 each. The team also play in red and white shirts due to Andy’s allegiance to Arsenal.

Shawclough FC is also looking for volunteer coaches to assist with the running of the club across multiple age groups.

Anyone interested in joining can turn up to a training session or contact Andy on 07792 383 991.
