Adil Hussain crowned Thai Boxing British Champion

Date published: 16 September 2016

An action packed night at the AFK Super league witnessed Adil Hussain, 28, from Rochdale Thai Boxing Club, crowned the AFK-1 British Champion, knocking out the local favourite in the four-man elimination tournament in Sheffield.

Hussain’s first fight of the night was against a powerful and resilient opponent. The pace was fast and Hussain dominated the fight from start to finish, displaying devastating accuracy with powerful combinations and counter attacks.

Hussain sent the travelling supporters wild and drew applause from the neutrals amongst the capacity crowd when he connected with a powerful body shot to his opponent’s right side, leaving him on the canvas unable to continue.

In the final, Hussain was up against the tournament favourite, a much taller opponent known for his kicks and reach advantage.

After early pressure, Hussain got the measure of his opponent and began delivering combinations of low kicks and punches, attacking from a variety of angles. A thundering kick followed by left hook sent Hussain’s opponent to the canvas forcing a 10 count from the referee. The first round ended with Hussain ahead on the judge’s scorecard.

As the fight continued Hussain’s skills, developed over several fights in Mixed Martial Arts and Thai Boxing, left his opponent confused and flustered. Hussain’s clever combinations proved too much for his opponent, who by this time was barely hanging on.

In round three came the knock out. Another thundering kick to the thigh stopped his opponent dead in his tracks, followed by a right hook to the head, and then came the left hook which knocked out his opponent ending the fight early in the third round.

The celebrations began and the Rochdale fans swamped the ring carrying Hussain high on their shoulders as the new AFK-1 Super League British Champion - putting Rochdale Thai Boxing Club on the map.
