Littleborough RUFC 10 - 19 Aspatria RUFC

Date published: 26 September 2016

Littleborough lost their first home match to a team slightly above them in the league.

Boro played the early part of the match in the Aspatria half but a missed a penalty attempt early on.

As the half progressed, attacks by Boro were somewhat limited due to Aspatria having more of the ball but Boro’s Goldthorpe did get a further chance to stretch his legs for another excellent run on the outside.

Walton made no mistake with a penalty to open the scoring for Boro - the only points scored in the first half.

At the start of the second half, Boro were forced to play in their own half due to the constant attacking running by Aspatria.

The pressure told and Aspatria crossed Boro’s try line only for the referee to rule that the ball was grounded correctly.

Walton kicked out from his own 10 metres area and the ball was caught by the Aspatria winger and just two passes saw Aspatria cross the line for their first converted try to take the lead.

Aspatria's good aggressive running led to their second converted try of the afternoon.

Late in the game Aspatria scored their third try but the conversion attempt missed.

Boro still didn’t give up and their persistent positive play was rewarded when scrum half, Kip Kolbuck touched the ball down over the line for Boro’s converted try in the very last minute of the game.

It wasn't enough, but although it wasn’t the result they wanted, coaches Richard Rawlinson and Mickey Howard felt that Boro had put in an outstanding defensive performance, full of commitment and passion for the whole of the 80 minutes play.
