Calvin Andrew handed 12-match ban for violent conduct

Date published: 04 November 2016

Calvin Andrew has been given a 12-match ban with immediate effect following an incident which occurred during the 1-0 victory over Oldham Athletic on 29 October 2016.

The incident, which took place in the 77th minute of the game, went unseen by officials but was caught on video. It is understood Andrew was involved in violent conduct toward Oldham defender Peter Clarke, who was allegedly struck by an elbow as Rochdale prepared to take a corner.

In a statement, the Football Association said: “It was alleged that the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply would be clearly insufficient. The player admitted his behaviour constituted violent conduct but denied the clearly insufficient element of the charge.

“However, this was found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today (4 November 2016).”

Andrew, who renewed his contract at Rochdale in the summer, receives one of the longest suspensions in Football League history, meaning he will not play again this year.
