Rugby Union: Aldwinians RUFC 21 - 16 Littleborough RUFC

Date published: 07 November 2016

Practically the same team of players but nowhere near the quality of play as last week as Littleborough succumbed to Aldwinians.

Littleborough were on the defensive from kick off but unusually they never got out of it and were soon behind by three points from a penalty kick.

Littleborough gave away a further penalty and Aldwinians doubled their lead.

Positive play, at last, by Littleborough saw Nathan Coop with a decent kick to touch, which was followed soon after with attacking rugby from Littleborough gaining them a penalty award which was well converted by Andy Walton.

Continuous attacking rugby by Aldwinians saw Chris Park make a great tackle on one of their forwards who was built twice the size of Chris, add to that there was too much out of hand ball kicking by Littleborough which only served to give the Aldwinians team more opportunity to control the game and mount continuous attacks, simply one way traffic.

Further good tackling came from Andy Walton and soon followed by David Kearns but all of the play was in Littleborough’s half of the field where Aldwinians received a further penalty, which fortunately for Littleborough they missed.

After struggling for ball possession in the first half the half time whistle blew with Littleborough only three points behind.

Player changes by Littleborough in the second half saw Ben Irving, Robert Chadwick and Josh Ellidge take to the field at various moments, with Matthew Goldthorpe taking the wing threequarter role.

Afte constant pressure from Aldwinians they crossed the line for the first try of the day.

Ben Irving started to show his qualities and nearly got Littleborough over the tryline.

A further penalty award to Littleborough was converted by Coop to make the score difference only eight points.

More pressure from Aldwinians team in Littleborough’s 10 metres area saw them score a great threequarter try under the posts and succesfully convert same.

Good play by Robert Chadwick culminated in a pass to David Kearns who crossed the line for Littleborough’s only try. Converted by Coop.

Littleborough had woken up and with Ben Irvings leadership they mounted several late attacks looking like they might even score a further try but the clock was ticking against them.

Another penalty miss by Littleborough followed by a successful one before the referee blew for full time.

The poorest rugby played this season by Littleborough, only competing in the game in the last quarter of play and with practically the same players that have raised their game magnificently in the past weeks.
