Paul Crook moves to Whitehaven

Date published: 09 November 2016

Paul Crook has signed for Whitehaven after his contract with Rochdale Hornets ended on 31 October.

Speaking about his new contract, Crook said: “After hearing about the situation I found myself in at Rochdale, I was contacted by Whitehaven’s coach, Carl ‘Foz’ Forster and was offered a fantastic opportunity to join him at such a great club.

“I’ve known Carl for a while and had previously played with him at Rochdale when he was on duel registration from St Helens, so we both know how each other work.”

He added: “He’s a great bloke, he is someone who is honest and that I respect. He told me his plans for the season ahead and the future and I wanted to be a part of it.

“Foz has put a great side together and I’m really looking forward to getting started with Whitehaven.

“Another big factor for me to join Whitehaven was to link up with Ste Roper again, he’s a good friend and we know each other well both on and off the field, so hopefully we can continue our great partnership and do our best for Whitehaven now.

“I’m hoping that I personally get off to a good start with my new club, put in some solid performances and can hopefully help Whitehaven return straight back to the Championship where they belong."

Crook, known as the Ginger General, had played for Hornets for seven years, and equalled the Hornets all-time point scoring record with 1,497 points, a record which has stood for 86 years.

He said: “I had some great times at Rochdale, especially the two grand final wins. I would like to thank the fans for all the support they have given me over the years and wish the lads well for their coming season in the Championship.”

Pre-season begins on 15 November with the season starting in February.
