Norden Cricket Club Annual Presentation Night

Date published: 21 November 2016

Norden Cricket Club announced the arrival of three new players during the club’s annual presentation night on Friday, 18 November.

All-rounder Josh Tolley is joining the club from Crompton, batsman Jamie Pilling was previously with Ramsbottom and Walshaw, and spinner Greg Butterworth, a former Rochdale player, was with Liverpool Competition side Bootle last season.

Due to other commitments Simon North will be standing down as first team captain following one of the most successful spells in the history of the club.

His replacement will be Hashum Malik who is now one of Stags’ longest serving players.
Paul Morrell will be second team skipper, and the third team will again be led by Mo Waheed.

Ashley Gowers picked up four club trophies and one from the JW Lees Pennine League.

He received the First X1 Batting cup, Majorca Cup for best batting performance of the season (his 89 not out in the ECB North West T20 final at Fleetwood), the Asif Mujtaba Medal which goes to the player who has received top marks from the captains in each week of the season, and the Geoff and Marion Hargreaves Trophy for the players’ player of the year.

He was also presented with the Littleborough Supporters trophy as Pennine League all-rounder of the season.

Rehan Udwadia was presented with the Pennine League Under 21 player of the season trophy.

Norden had two new awards this time round.

The catch of the season award went to Steve Pimm for his take in a match at Walsden, and the trophy for best ladies’ performance of the season went to Amanda Ratcliffe.

Last, but not least, on the list of trophies to be presented by former England Test player Simon Jones was the Coupe Cup for Clubperson of the Year.

It went to David Collin for his work with the club’s under nines team, his work on junior training nights, and his willingness to help with anything he could do.

The presentations were followed by a question and answer session with Simon Jones.
